Getting started

From install to your first alert on stream in about five minutes. Three of those steps are single clicks.

Ferrocast is not released yet. This guide shows how setup works in version 1; the download page says when it ships.

Install Ferrocast

Download the installer for your system from the download page and open it. On Windows the installer needs no admin rights. On Linux, Flatpak is the easiest option.

Ferrocast starts a small engine in the background and opens the dashboard. Closing the window keeps it running in the tray, so alerts keep working while you play.

Connect your accounts

Each platform is one click. Ferrocast never asks for your password; you sign in on the platform’s own site.

  • Twitch shows a short code like FRRO-4821. Your browser opens twitch.tv/activate, you check the code matches and approve.
  • YouTube and Kick open their sign-in page in your browser.

Your sign-in is stored in your operating system’s keychain. You can disconnect any platform in Settings → Accounts.

Pick a look

Choose a theme for every widget at once: Molten, Daylight, Arcade, Minimal or Sticker. Each previews live with sample alerts and chat, so you see it before your viewers do. You can change it any time.

Add the overlay to OBS

Click Add to OBS. Ferrocast talks to OBS through its WebSocket server and creates a browser source called “Ferrocast” in the scene you are on.

No WebSocket set up? Copy the URL instead and add it in three steps:

  1. In OBS, click + under Sources and choose Browser.
  2. Paste the overlay URL and set the size to 1920 by 1080.
  3. Click OK. Leave “Shutdown source when not visible” on; the overlay pauses itself when hidden.

Keep the URL private. If it ever shows on stream, open Overlays and click New URL; the old one stops working at once.

Test an alert

On the Home screen, click any test button: Follow, Sub, Raid, Tip and more. A sample plays in OBS straight away, even before you have connected an account. If an alert ever doesn’t play during a stream, open the event and click Why didn’t this alert fire?

Learn the panic mode hotkey

If a hate raid starts, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+ Shift+P on Mac) or the big button on Home. Ferrocast turns on followers-only and slow mode, holds messages from new accounts and pauses alerts and text-to-speech on every platform. Press it again to go back to normal. You can change what panic mode does in Moderation.
